Top 20 Songs of Your High School Years

As I was driving to work this morning, my iPod shuffled through a bunch of random songs:  “Rite of Spring” from Fantasia, Beyonce’s “Work it Out,” the Overtures from the musicals Thoroughly Modern Millie and Seussical: The Musical, INXS’ “One of My Kind.”  And then it played a song I hadn’t heard in awhile: OMD’s “Secret” from the album Crush.

“Secret” is one of those songs that brings back a flood of memories of the High School Years.  I’ve never been a huge fan of listening to the radio (too many commercials, even back in the 1980’s) and have always been a big proponent of the mix tape, cd, etc.  (Which is why an iPod on shuffle is ultimate listening heaven to me.)  I created a tape that my friends and I listened to in the car as we drove to sports events, when we went to movies, etc.  It was a tape of songs that will forever remind me of high school.  Music–like a sudden whiff of a smell that reminds you of something you hadn’t thought of in a long time–is one of those rare things that can instantly transport you back to a different time in your life.
